January 2011. Tonight’s speaker is a member of our committee, Sandra Angadi. Having enthralled the committee with some of her gardening experiences in France we are delighted that Sandra has eventually been persuaded to give a talk to the club. Here are two of Sandra Angadi's photographs, before and after, with roughly the same view illustrating her January talk "Gardening in France". From Field to Garden - 10 years of toil!

February 2011. Sue Beesley is making a return visit, having spoken to us after becoming the R.H.S. Gardener of the year in 2006. We visited her garden and nursery at Bluebell cottage near Warrington in 2008.
March 2011. Our celebrity speaker this year is Sir Roddy Llewellyn, a British baronet, landscape gardener, journalist and author. He runs his own garden design company and has an article in the February edition of The English Garden. Non member tickets will shortly be available at £10. |

April 2011. Julian Davies from Stockbridge Technology Centre (Leaders in technology transfer to agriculture and horticulture) will be speaking on vegetable gardening.
May 2011. We visit “Hill Top” the garden of Mrs. Lyn Short, situated on the edge of Ilkley Moor. Prior to the 1890’s a thatched farm cottage stood on the site and subsequently a school and a convalescent home, but in 1996 a Swedish timber framed house was built by the present owners. Major planting schemes have been carried out by Gardenmakers and Holden Clough. The garden has gravel paths and steep steps which can be slippery, but it is a very interesting garden dissected by a rushing stream and well worth a visit. Garden details can be found here. |

June 2011. The club outing on Saturday June 18th. is to Jacqueline Iddon’s Garden and nursery at Bretherton near Leyland, Lancashire. We will be leaving by coach at 9-15am from Oxenhope Station. The cost of £25 is totally inclusive of:
The garden is one & half acres split into different areas, a hot Mediterranean garden with bottle wall and folly for sun loving plants, a Victorian fern house and a walled garden, a woodland walkway for shade loving plants and a large stream fed pond planted with a wide range of unusual foliage & flowering plants, alongside climbing roses, clematis, shrubs & herbaceous borders. In the garden there is a sculpture gallery and a hardy plant nursery, with a wide selection of perennial plants of interest to the keen gardener & flower arranger. There is a large garden studio & conservatory with indoor seating as an insurance against the weather. The garden has been featured in Lancashire Life, Flora Magazine, Gardens Illustrated & Lancashire Magazine. Places on trip still available - please contact Treasurer 01535 642684. Garden details can be found here. |
